This endeavor was most rewarding was when we completed the two-page (22x22 inch) spread of a mega-timeline that encapsulated the biggest moments of 2020. I segmented the year up into six equal sections, and assigned one to each artist on my team. I allowed them to work on their "chunk" in a style that was most comfortable for them, with the only requirement being that their section of the timeline needed to start and end at specific points (to ensure all the "chunks" would piece together nicely). The specific moments highlighted on the timeline were selected by the artists, then curated by me, with the instruction from our Editor-in-Chief to include and equal amount of national/global events and Purdue/local ones.
This piece won First Place, Best Informational Graphic in the Indiana Collegiate Press Association's 2021 Awards.
“Great work on a well-executed timeline of a 'hellish year' moments of 2020. Lots of details laid out in a way that makes it easy to spend time reviewing a historical year. The illustrations are artistically strong to help make the timeline easy to follow. Congratulations to the whole team.”      – ICPA Judges
